2010 Fast

Every January, New Life begins the year on the

right foot by fasting in prayer. Although we can't

be together every day in 'body,' we join together

in 'spirit' by praying for common needs and

changes. If you are physically able, join with us in

our corporate fast.

We believe in faith that God is going to do great

things during the year.  The fast this year will be:

¤ No meat, except chicken & turkey- For the

whole month, we are skipping all beef, pork,

and fish.  Any other kinds of food are acceptable.

¤ Water only - Just water to drink. No pop, juice,

tea, milk, !COFFEE!, etc.  [yes, you can do it]

¤ No Sweets - Avoid the Christmas candy, cake,

cookies, etc...

¤ As a church, we will be reading the book of Psalms everyday.

If you have any prayer needs, please email them to us or let us know so that we can be praying for them during this time.

¬ Why do we do this???   Throughout the Bible, God shows how He answers the fervent prayer of the righteous. Often we are too distracted by careers, entertainment, friends, -or anything else you can think of- to have a strong prayer life. The best way to get back to your 'straight and narrow' is put all other things to the side and purposefully look for God's will. Fasting eliminates something that is normal for you, so that it is a constant reminder to stay in prayer. The change in your daily grind should help you correct your priorities and get your mindset where you know it should be. Giving yourself time goals, or fasting from media such as TV or videogames will always increase the effectiveness of your effort as well.

This is a great way to change your mindset and grow in new and better habits. Side effects can include, but are not limited to:

¬ Accidental weight loss from skipping junk food

¬ Better memory to pray and study the Bible

¬ Changing your life for the better

jesus praying
